First...where did I ever say my "little darlings" never got out of line? Parents should be in the business of parenting. Schools are in the business of educating...not teaching morals, being role models, etc.. Students who are constant problems can, and are, sent to the alternative campuses in the district.
And if you think a business like Walmart can keep anyone from going into any of their stores and making a purchase using cash you are a fool. It would require they take a photo of EVERY "problem" person, keep them in a central database and implement facial recognition software and equipment at all their entrances...at every store...to keep someone from walking in. Even a mom-and-pop would need to have the owner or dedicated employee there 100% of the time doing nothing more watching the people walking in the door...yea, like they can afford that. Give me a break.
A little testy this morning? I never indicated you in anything, and you come out swinging and name calling.
So if I understand correctly, school officials should not enforce their rules, the parents should.
Interesting, how would a basketball game go with no rules?

Reminds me of that email....Our parents spanked us, we played outside on jungle gyms, out cribs had lead based paint, we drank out of water hoses, etc, etc, etc, and we all turned out fine.

I got more of a kick laughing at the roided out coach after he smacked me as hard as he could.
My Mom was friends with the Principal....and that did not help matters on my end.
They had the full "go ahead"

+1 NOBODY better lay a hand on my kids. If they act up, call me in and believe me, they'll never act up again. If they're too bad, kick 'em out of school. But don't wack 'em.
It's not about being soft on 'em....I don't want some wacked out teacher or principal, whose had a bad day, taking it out on them.

Yes..schools have become a joke..they don't teach..they don't discipline.."everybody gets a huggie!"
Leaving it to the parents sounds real good..but parents don't do much better..kids run wild in public..no longer seem to be taught respect for grown-ups.
Other than that..we're in great shape.

I don't like the principal, etc giving spankings, but what are they to do? Yeah, if my kid is acting up to where it gets to that point (hopefully earlier), give me a call and I will come take care of it. Now, if administrators call and tell a parent to come and get their student, the administrators will get an ear full from those parents because they had to come there.
Parents want to be able to drop their kids off, then have them taken home or picked up. What happens in between is up to the schools, but it by God better be by the parent's rules!
Give them more H/W?!?!?!? How many times do we complain about having H/W? Besides, the kids that are "trouble" won't do it anyway. Make them go to detention???? The parents will complain because "How is my kid supposed to get home now?"
The only complaint I have about schools and discipline... be consistent.

This is one of the reasons public schools have gone to s***.
People want the school to teach with handcuffs.
Bulls***. Schools have other ways to keep children in line. I agree with Aspiring Lush...nobody better hit my kid...PERIOD. If the educators cannot stay professional then they should find another line of work. Businesses keep employees, even school age, in line. When was the last time you walked into a business and had to wait for assistance because the manager was paddling the employee? unless it was one of those types of establishments.
A recipe for turning you child into a spoiled, it's all about me little horse's butt.
I can just see a kid like this playing football or going into the military. What a freakin' joke.

I think most parents teach their kids the correct way about behaving in public. But obviously, the minority that don't cause the big problems.
I teach my kids to respect everyone, not just their elders. You don't have to like someone but respect the fact that those toes you step on today might be connected to the butt you'll have to kiss 10-20 years from now.
If they're constant trouble, kick them out of school!

School attendance should be a Matter of Choice not by force of LAW.
To Force someone to be where they do not want to be Then To WHACK them when they disrupt the proceedings is not as wrong as it is silly.
I Challenge anyone to Go watch some of these folks SHOW OUT IN CLASS. It is like they are the star of their own movie.Disruption is who they are and they are not happy if there is not some kind of deal going which they are the center of attention...
Then see the poor pitiful pull at your heart strings BROKEN HOME / they are picking on me what ever show they put on for the Parents or school Social worker type when faced with dealing with the punishment about to be dealt to them. And that to is in tandum with the HEY look at at me deal as well LOOK AT ME I CAN'T help my self when it comes to the Trouble I cause.
Well guess what ? Lets take all the Hey look at me type and send them Packing.
Now the other side of this is....
I would think most of us here were taught at an early age.....
That we were going to do some things, abide by rules and do school work like it or not.

My Dad always told me that School and Sports was my job growing up, if I did poorly in either one or both, he would find me a real one...and he wasn't kidding.
Hell when I was in School, you would get it from the Principal who would tell the football or basketball coach, you would then get it from him, who would make sure to tell your parents, and then you would get it from them when you got home.
It was the trifecta of butt-whoopins.....I knew I screwed up and I knew it was coming, made me a better person today..

Woha there cowboy, you gonna give the impression that a little corporal punishment really does go further than a time out.
Wouldn't want to stunt the little darlings "it's all about me" syndrome.
I love the statement " I'm my kids best friend" Really? try being a parent.
