Our office will be closed tomorrow, however I plan on spending the day doing some yardwork, while my husband works around the house as well.  We have a full weekend planned and I want to get projects out of the way before we have fun.

It is a regular work day because I am Mommy everyday. The only difference would be if I go into labor in which case I will be doing a different job and my parents will take care of William's needs.

Holiday for my "regular" job, could be a work day for my doula job. I've got a mom who was due on the 27th. It would be handy for her to go this weekend.

Holiday for me.

FWIW, last year we went to see son who lives in Canada.  July 1st is Canada Day, celebrating the break from GB.....It fell on a Tuesday, so we figured the kids would get Monday and Tuesday off.......WRONG.....Canadians got only the 1 day.  Since neither had any seniority at work, they were not able to claim a vacation day..

July is really "stick it to GB" month then...with Canada day on the 1st and US independence day on the 4th...its like everyone is celebrating getting the heck away from GB.

Poor GB. It has feelings, too ya know.

Unknown to Canadians and Yanks, GB prolly has a "Good Riddance" day this month...............to celebrate both departures.

Owner of my company tried to guilt trip everyone into working tomorrow for 5-6 hours, worked with about 75%, I was not one of them.

Company wide holiday for me.....

Wifey is employed by a car dealer, so she works tomorrow. Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day are the ONLY two holidays recognized by many car dealers.

I got to Granbury around 2 this afternoon, but I'll be in for the shows Saturday.

Mark, I was surprised by the number of dealers closed this Saturday....some of the Classic stores, all the Freeman stores until a few minutes ago when the employees asked Dane Minor if they could work Saturday, all the Park Place stores are closed Saturday and all the Autobahn stores are closed.

That IS a little surprising.

I can understand the dealers wanting to keep the doors open as much as possible and keeping sales staff available to make sales.

What I can't understand is forcing office staff to work on holidays, especially if the banks and tax offices are closed.  There isn't a whole lot of productive stuff these folks can do on those days.

Not an easy answer for me.

This year we have gone to a Personal Time Off system. Vacation days and personal days are lumped into a bank of PTO hours. You don't have to take them on recognized holidays. You can take them any day you and your manager agree on. So you can work any day you want (it's a hospital, it never closes) and take off any day you want, as long as you have time on the books.

I'm taking Friday off.

I don't understand this either. I'm about 99% sure that they lose money on those days.

I wish someone smarter than me would explain why you would open when you know you're going to lose money.

A little working in the morning. Depends on the customers - most of the manufacturing customer will be closed. The distribution customers will be open. I'll answer the phone if it rings. Oh, my office is here at the house.

The overhead rolls on Skeet.  If you don't open the doors, there's no chance of breaking even or making money.  If you do, you might cover the overhead and turn a profit.  Truly, it's that simple.
