...And the smell of gunsmoke

Ours ranged from fair to middlin' to a disaster. Got lots of onions and potatoes, but then the thermometer went berserk. We're eating tomatoes now, but they're not going to last long. A few squashes. Peppers? Don't ask. I think we had three peppers off all the plants.
Ah, well, we urban farmers have learned to roll with the punches.

I'm just struggling to keep my new landscaping alive. My sprinkler system comes on 3X a week, and I water the beds by hand every night and every morning on top of that.
Gotta go now....

Real farmers have to roll with the punches also.

I too have had mixed results. Where I live it is cooler and I had an even later freeze than most in the Metroplex. I had to replant and they didn't catch up very well. I have eaten Green bean, Sugar snap peas, onions, tomatoes, got my first okra yesterday, and I have squash coming along. I have had lots of Jalapeno, and some bell peppers, the Tabasco peppers are forming well but no Poblano yet. Oh yes, I had about 5 or so Habanero too. A friend gave me a horseradish plant and that thing is taking over the garden. It is HUGE.
My potatoes got too wet, but I still have a few that are making.
Over all I would give this garden a c+ not one of my better endeavors, but the late start almost ruined it.

My garden has done real well this year, much better than last year. I have two, 3 year old raised beds, that I added some good potting soil and manure to again this year. Tomatoes and squash have been ready to eat for the past couple of weeks, and more ripening. Onions turned out great.
I am really happy with my blackberries. Planted one Navajo thornless bush and one Arapaho thornless bush last year for the granddaughter to enjoy and they are giving us more blackberries than we can eat. Made preserves and giving them away now. Couldn't be happier with two year old bushes.
Strawberries, another treat for the granddaughter, did great until I made the mistake of transplanting them into a barrel and killed them. Replanted but won't produce until next year.

I feel a bit of a failure now. My Gardens are bursting with colour. All the Roses are in full bloom, plus lots of annuals. But..... nothing to eat, just pretty to look at.

I wish you would send just a few weeks of your weather to us. My roses are still blooming but the heat bleaches out the color so I have to get them inside or they are gone quickly. But this spring it was beautiful.

True Cliff. Its a double edged sword. I honestly have never been anywhere as Green and lush as the UK. The countryside is so beautiful, the flowers bloom vibrantly, all Summer through. The price we pay for this, is, rain, rain and more rain. As I speak, its bouncing down. After a week of glorious weather, we will probably pay for it, for the next two weeks. We have been promised a good Summer though. So far, we have been lucky. However, the last two Summers have been non existant, so we are all crossing our fingers.

Ours is not doing good this year either.
I think I will try to get hubby to do some raised beds for next year. I think our soil is not good.

I've harvested about 40 tomatoes off 5 plants so far, more ripening. This isn't counting the 2 grape tomatoe plants, I've probably filled 2 of those boxes they come in in the stores.
The 2 plants I have here (544 & Brandywine) have only produced 2 fruit. They were planted about 2 weeks after the others.
My Celebrity and Roma plants have done real well.

Gettings some cucumers and plenty of tomatoes ( but not mant buds so those will end). Onions did fair ( not as good as last year. Squash was doing well until it got a virus ( green splotches0 so i oulled them up. I am geeting some zuccini squash. Peppers have been very disappointing. I have about 10 cantalope that are getting close. Something keeps eating my okra plants, so I do not think I will ever get any. Looks like an animal. same thing happened last year. But it is a hobby..lol

Ours is struggling because of the hot,dry weather. We have missed out on several rains, so we are watering like crazy.Spider mites have attacked our tomatoes and watermelons, but we are still getting some really nice tomatoes. An armadillo destroyed some squash plants and deer have eaten some okra plants of all things. Didn't know they liked okra plants. They did leave enough for a yummy mess of fried okra last night. If it doesn't rain at our house soon, the garden may not hold out much longer.

Cucumbers and tomotoes doing OK. Heat has burned up bell pepper plants.

Two containers with tomato plants were doing OK until the heat set in. Now the blooms are shriveling. Discouraging.

I planted a couple raised beds, put in a drip irrigation then mulched heavily. My celebrity tomatoes, early girl, roma and cherry tomatoes did and are doing great. I tried a couple heirloom - cherokee something or other and a green striped heirloom. The birds attack those before they even start to turn, and the bugs have hit them and left the hybrids alone. I also planted a yellow cherry tomato - it has done fantastic. I tried a couple 444 hybrid plants, they have been weak - they have a couple tomatoes on them but for the most part are blah. My lemon boy did well early, but has about played out.
I've gotten a bunch of cucumbers, but my peppers either stayed small or something gets them - I dont know what but it eats some of the outside of the skin. I've gotten one zucchini and no squash out of two plants each
When august 1 gets here I'm going to cut the plants back and see if I can coax a fall crop out of them. My theory is that the root system is established, so hopefully the plants will take off - we will see!

anyone try that patio tomato thing, the upside down tomato plant that was advertised on TV? just wondering if it worked.

Harvested garlic last weekend. Wet spring here in TN, afraid they'd rot in the ground.

One of the more ridiculous ideas, IMO. A friend bought one, but I have not heard a report of the results.
