It worked for Hamlet; will Iowahawk’s performance work for the rest of us? It is too early to tell. "I've met him, you know -- Iowahawk. 6'7" he is, arms like mighty oak trees, legs like even mightier oak trees: clear grey eyes looking to the far horizon, his lantern jaw set against the approaching storm but yet with a slight hint of a distant smile bourne of many combats won and mortal enemies vanquished. I stood speechless in his presence at a restaurant in Marina del Rey --- just speechless, weeping silently at the sheer magnetism and force of personality coming off the man in seismic waves; a transcendental, religious experience that kept me awake for a week, as if I had seen the heavens split open in a blaze of orange and purple glory, and all of God's Great Plan revealed. And when he finally did speak, it was the sound of distant thunder echoing off ancient mountains, a sound that predates mankind's puny schreeching -- a sound that, indeed, is antecedent to the founding of Life on Earth and comes carried through the ether on the shock wave of ancient dying stars. And though he only spoke twelve words during the four hours I stood in his presence, those words are with me still, a perfect dozen seared into my memory, written in gold across the great hall of my mind. He said, 'HEY, CAN YOU GET THIS ONE? I LEFT MY WALLET AT HOME.'"
Spongeworthy
"But no s***, Iowahawk might get up tomorrow, get baked, grab his beautiful wife and ride his moped backwards to a Hells Angel rally, then drink himself into oblivion and fight about 7 crank dealers from the Racine chapter of the Death Jokers all by himself. Then maybe he'd go home, romance the beautiful wife, build a perfect retro treehouse for his perfect kids, drink a bottle of tequila, prepare a 3-course meal while beating away a push-in home invader and sacrificing him on a makeshift, though historically accurate, Inca altar he built in the woods behind the railroad tracks. Then he'd sit down and knock out a tremedously insulting Leftist parody that pissed off thread after thread of Kos and DU lunatics, romance the bride once again and fall asleep chuckling. It's like he's Paul Bunyan and Mark Twain rolled up into one hipster"

Please note: this has nothing to do with innate ability or aptitude. Quite to the contrary, I believe the test gap between minority students and white students can be attributed to differences in socioeconomic status. And poverty. And yes, racism. And yes, family structure. Whatever combination of reasons, the gap exists, and it's mathematical sophistry to compare the combined average test scores in a state like Wisconsin (4% black, 4% Hispanic) with a state like Texas (12% black, 30% Hispanic).

He left out something.  42% of blacks are on welfare, and 33% of Hispanics.

When people are offered a life free from work and self responsibility, more than other wise will take you up on the offer.

Exactly why should a young black man apply himself, become educated, and develop a thinking brain, when he comes from a back ground and thus knows he  does not have to?   His single mom parent didn't have to, why should he?

79% of black males in NY City under the age of 29, have never had a job.  How do they feed themselves?  Someone else is doing the work it takes to provide for them.  They don't have to work, so they don't.

If I were dictator, all able bodied people who can work would be cut off from government hand outs, like tomorrow.  You want to eat, and sleep under a roof, pull your own weight.

Here is where he is getting the stats.

And this is who they are..

NAEP is a congressionally authorized project of the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) within the Institute of Education Sciences of the U.S. Department of Education. The Commissioner of Education Statistics is responsible for carrying out the NAEP project. The National Assessment Governing Board oversees and sets policy for NAEP.

His numbers are just a bad as Krugmans numbers . Better reseach on his part and I bet he would question where his facts came from.

Your point completely eludes me. This is the most objective measure available to compare student populations across states. The study was authorized by Congress and the data has been statistically analyzed.

Where, exactly, is the problem?

+1

Care to post other data to dispute this?

Not questioning (well I guess I am) your comment, but it would be interesting to see other data.

There is a difference for the need for a Department of Education and the need to occasionally perform projects to compile data to compare states and their educational attainments against each other.

IE, we could abolish the Department today and on Monday ask for this report to be updated.  Sure, the update would probably cost more than the original report because the Department infrastructure would be gone, but it could still be done.

Sorry My simple mindedness Is shining .

First I am amazed the guy Quote's the SAME Department of Education Most Conservatives think should be eliminated.

His numbers on how well students are doing At least the way I read it .Are coming from the same agency that would look bad if those numbers didn't look good.
